What is Burgerstein Vitamin C retard and when is it used?

Burgerstein Vitamin C retard contains pure vitamin C (ascorbic acid) as an active ingredient. Vitamin C intervenes in a variety of vital metabolic processes via various mechanisms. Burgerstein Vitamin C retard is used to treat and prevent vitamin C deficiencies. The special pelleting in Burgerstein Vitamin C retard ensures a continuous and even release of vitamin C over 8-24 hours. To this day it is not known whether this is important for the effect. It is used to treat and prevent vitamin C deficiencies such as scurvy and its precursors. In the case of the following diseases or under the following circumstances, the need for vitamin C may be increased and/or an additional dose may be necessary:

Bleeding gums due to vitamin C deficiency;

Wound healing, for example after tooth extraction;

Operations;

Infectious diseases;

Colds;

Absorption disorders after surgical removal of the stomach (gastrectomy) or after diseases in the gastrointestinal tract;

Smokers;

Pregnancy and lactation;

Treatment with antibiotics;

for blood washing (dialysis).

What should be considered?

Because the body cannot produce vitamin C itself, it must be obtained from food. Vegetables and fruits are rich in vitamin C, especially citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons and grapefruits. Larger amounts of vitamin C are also found in the liver and kidneys, but not in meat, cereals and dairy products. Boiling, watering, keeping warm and storing (including freezing) can greatly reduce the vitamin C content.

This medicinal product contains approx. 65 mg digestible carbohydrates per capsule. Burgerstein Vitamin C retard is therefore suitable for diabetics.

Diabetics who determine the sugar level in their urine themselves should not take Burgerstein Vitamin C retard a few days before the test because vitamin C affects the result.

When should Burgerstein Vitamin C retard not be taken?

If you are allergic to any of the ingredients, you should stop taking Burgerstein Vitamin C retard.

If you suffer from kidney stones with simultaneous increased oxalic acid excretion, have an iron storage disease or urinary poisoning, you should not take Burgerstein Vitamin C retard.

When should you be careful when taking Burgerstein Vitamin C retard?

Patients with kidney stones may only take more than 500 mg of vitamin C daily after consulting their doctor.

Inform your doctor, pharmacist or druggist if you suffer from other illnesses, have allergies or are taking other medicines (even those you bought yourself!).

Can Burgerstein Vitamin C retard be taken during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?

There are no concerns about taking vitamin C while pregnant or breastfeeding.
